Quick answer: use the station that fits your route
Brussels has official SNCB/NMBS self-service luggage lockers at Brussels-Central, Brussels-Midi / Zuid, Brussels-North and Brussels-Luxembourg. For most travellers, the best choice is the station they will return to, not necessarily the one closest to Grand-Place.
If you arrive by Eurostar or another international service at Midi and leave from the same station, keeping your bag there may be simpler than taking it to Central. If you're spending several hours around Grand-Place before another domestic train, Brussels-Central often makes geographical sense. If you're visiting the European Quarter, consider Brussels-Luxembourg instead.
Official station lockers: sizes and prices
The SNCB currently publishes the following starting daily rates. Their price list states a minimum rental of one day, with hourly extensions possible beyond the booking period. Check availability and exact fees in the official reservation system before you travel.
Locker size | Approximate usable dimensions | Daily rate |
|---|---|---|
S | 14 × 23 × 60 cm | €5.00 |
M | 19 × 30 × 60 cm | €7.00 |
L | 44 × 34 × 60 cm | €9.50 |
XL | 58 × 50 × 80 cm | €11.50 |
XXL | 89 × 50 × 80 cm | €14.50 |
The published dimensions are locker sizes, not guaranteed suitcase classifications: measure an unusually shaped bag before reserving. If you are travelling in a group, an XL or XXL compartment may be cheaper than several smaller ones, provided everything genuinely fits.

How the lockers work
You can rent a locker at participating stations or book online. The SNCB requires payment and explains that opening the locker ends the rental. You should therefore take everything you need for the day before closing it; returning for a coat and locking the remaining suitcase away again may require a new rental. Extra charges apply if your storage period is exceeded, and the railway operator lists procedures for luggage left after a substantial delay.
Don't assume locker stock is unlimited. Reserve in advance when a fixed arrival/departure time makes luggage storage essential.
Brussels-Central or Brussels-Midi?
Brussels-Central: practical for Grand-Place, the Royal Galleries and the lower-town sightseeing circuit. A sensible base if your sightseeing is mostly on foot and you will return to this station.
Brussels-Midi: best aligned with many international rail arrivals and departures. Choosing Midi avoids a separate transfer with bags when your onward train also leaves here. Don't assume that it is the nearest station to the historic centre.
Brussels-North: useful if your route or accommodation already takes you through the north of the city.
Brussels-Luxembourg: a possible choice for meetings or sightseeing in the European Quarter, but only if your onward journey makes collection practical.
Private luggage storage: when it helps
Private storage services can be useful when station lockers are full or inconveniently located, or if you have an oversized item. Companies such as Bounce and Radical Storage operate location-dependent partner networks; the existence of a brand does not guarantee a storage partner at the address you need.
Before making a paid reservation, verify the exact location, opening hours, drop-off and pick-up windows, identification rules, cancellation terms, whether the price is per bag or per locker, and the conditions of any loss/damage coverage. We have not verified a specific private storage point or an affiliate link for Brussels Compass. The official SNCB option is the starting comparison.
A simple itinerary with luggage
Arriving in Brussels for a day? Store your bags at the station you will use to leave, then explore the city without detouring to collect them from a distant neighbourhood. If you're staying overnight, first ask your hotel whether it can hold luggage before check-in or after checkout, possibly for free.
